A few weeks ago, I was cleaning my desk setup and noticed something annoying. Every time I wanted to check my monitor for dust spots or screen issues, I had to minimize everything or search for a dark image online.
Out of curiosity, I searched for a simple black screen tool and ended up on BlackScreen.app.
To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much. The website does exactly what its name suggests—it displays a black screen. That’s it.
But after using it several times, I realized how often a tool like this can come in handy.
The first time I used it was to inspect a monitor I had recently connected to my laptop. A solid black background made it easier to notice a small bright spot near one corner of the display. Thankfully it wasn’t a dead pixel, just a bit of dust that needed cleaning.
A few days later, I opened the site again while preparing screenshots for a project. Instead of leaving random files and browser tabs visible on a second monitor, I used the black screen as a clean background.
That’s probably what I like most about BlackScreen.app. It doesn’t try to become a productivity suite, a browser extension, or another piece of software you have to install. You open the page, press full screen, and it works.
In a time when many websites seem overloaded with features, there’s something refreshing about a tool that solves one problem and solves it well.
Will everyone need a black screen website? Probably not.
But if you work with monitors, give presentations, test displays, or simply prefer keeping a clean desktop setup, it’s the kind of resource that’s worth remembering.
